1. Overview
Joy to Home acts as a facilitator connecting renters with book owners. The Platform provides tools for status tracking and communication, but the actual pickup coordination and shipping are handled peer-to-peer between the renter and book owner.
Two fulfillment options are available, depending on what the book owner offers for each listing:
- Local Pickup: In-person handoff coordinated between parties
- External Delivery: Book shipped via courier, managed by the owner
2. Local Pickup
When a renter selects local pickup:
- The owner receives notification with the renter's contact details (phone/email)
- Owner and renter coordinate a pickup location and time outside the Platform (via phone, WhatsApp, etc.)
- The owner updates the rental status to "Ready for Pickup"
- After the physical handoff, the owner marks the status as "Handed Over to Renter"
- The renter confirms receipt in the app, or the system auto-confirms after 48 hours
For privacy, the pickup location shown to the renter is owner-defined and can be a general area (e.g., "Koramangala, Bangalore") rather than an exact address.
3. External Delivery
When a renter selects delivery:
- The renter provides a shipping address during checkout
- The owner receives the shipping address after rental confirmation
- The owner ships the book using their preferred courier service
- The owner updates the status to "Shipped" and optionally adds a tracking number
- The renter marks as "Received" upon delivery
- For returns: the renter ships back and marks "Return Shipped"; the owner confirms "Return Received"
The Platform does not integrate with shipping carriers or calculate shipping costs. Owners set a flat shipping fee (or free shipping) when creating their listing.
4. Owner Responsibilities
- Update rental status promptly at each stage of fulfillment
- Ship books within 3 business days of rental confirmation (for delivery)
- Package books securely to prevent damage during transit
- Communicate clearly with renters about pickup arrangements
- Verify book condition upon return and update status accordingly
5. Renter Responsibilities
- Provide accurate shipping addresses for delivery orders
- Be available for coordinated pickup within a reasonable timeframe
- Confirm receipt of books promptly in the app
- Return books by the agreed rental end date
- Package return shipments securely
- Update status when shipping returns
6. Shipping Costs
Shipping costs are set by the book owner on each listing. These may be:
- Free shipping: Owner absorbs shipping costs
- Flat fee: A fixed amount charged to the renter
Shipping costs are clearly displayed during checkout and deducted from the renter's wallet along with the rental fee. Return shipping costs are the renter's responsibility unless otherwise agreed.
7. Fulfillment Timelines
Expected timelines for fulfillment status updates:
- Pickup preparation: Within 2 business days of rental confirmation
- Shipping dispatch: Within 3 business days of rental confirmation
- Receipt confirmation: Within 48 hours of delivery/pickup (auto-confirmed if not updated)
- Return initiation: By the rental end date
Stalled fulfillment statuses may trigger automated reminders to the responsible party.
8. Issues & Disputes
If you experience issues with fulfillment (e.g., book not received, damaged during shipping, owner unresponsive), you can:
- Contact the other party directly through the platform
- Submit a support ticket for assistance
- Open a dispute if the issue cannot be resolved directly
